About

Reforged & Refined is a fabrication studio in Madison, Wisconsin. We make things that are meant to be kept.

One set of hands

Most custom work passes through several companies before it reaches you. A design shop draws it. A print shop makes it. Someone else assembles it, and someone else again puts a finish on it. Every handoff is a place where the intent gets a little thinner and nobody is quite accountable for the result.

That does not happen here, because there is nobody to hand it off to.

Reforged & Refined is one person. I do the design work, I run the machines, and I do the sanding and the finishing at the bench afterward. If a piece is right, that is on me. If it is wrong, I remake it, and you are not paying for someone else's mistake three companies down the line.

The work leaves here the way it would if I were keeping it.

I learned 3D printing professionally before any of this was a business, on production equipment, doing it every day. The woodworking came from years in a home shop. The laser came later, once it was clear the two could be combined into something neither one does alone. Glass, wood, acrylic, crystal, and metal all pass through the same room now, which is why a single piece can be engraved glass in a printed frame on a hand finished walnut base without anything being ordered in.

The name is the idea. Raw material comes in with no particular meaning attached to it. It leaves as something a person actually wants to hold onto.

The shop

Five processes under one roof. This is the part that decides what is possible, so it is worth being specific about.

UV galvo laser

Fine detail marking on glass, metal, crystal, acrylic, and coated surfaces. No coating left behind, so engraved drinkware is dishwasher safe.

Multi material printing

Multicolor FDM for frames, housings, and structural components, with a second machine running production in parallel.

Resin printing

High resolution work where layer lines would show. Washed, cured, and finished properly rather than handed over straight off the plate.

Woodworking

Bases, boxes, and frames milled from hardwood rather than bought as blanks. Local stock wherever it makes sense.

Design and CAD

Every piece is modeled before it is made. That is also why you see a proof before anything is cut.

How we work

1

Nothing is cut before you approve it

You see a proof first, every time. Surprises are for birthdays, not for work you paid for.

2

The finish is half the job

Anyone can run a file through a machine. The difference between a part and a product is what happens at the bench afterward, and that is where most of the time goes.

3

Original work only

We do not reproduce other people's trademarks or protected designs. If you want something in that spirit, we will design something original that gets you there.

4

A real number, early

You get a price before the work starts, not an estimate that drifts. If a request is outside what we do well, we will say so and point you somewhere better.

Where to find us

The studio is in Madison, Wisconsin, and it is not a storefront. Projects start with a conversation rather than a walk in, which means the work gets scoped properly before anyone commits to anything. Visits by appointment. Finished work ships nationwide or gets picked up locally.
